Buriti
Buriti fruit grows atop a beautiful palm in the Amazon which in
local culture is known as the Tree of Life. Its fruit is one of the
richest sources of beta carotene in the plant kingdom. The mesocarp of
this fruit, like that of açaí, is traditionally made into a juice and
is also commonly used as an ingredient in ice cream. Buriti candy has
been used in government programs aimed at combating vitamin A
deficiency in Brazil. Buriti oil also contains 5000IU of pro-vitamin A
per ml, a level five times that of African Palm Oil.
